Wanda Jo Leathers passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Paragould, Arkansas. She was born on Monday, July 3, 1950, in Sikeston, Missouri, to Joe and Emma Bernice Hampton.
Wanda married Jim Leathers of Malden, Missouri, and together they built not only a family but a legacy of hard work, love, and success. They shared over 50 years of life together—years marked by dedication, partnership, and perseverance. As co-owners of Leathers Melon Company and Leathers Bus and Equipment, Wanda and Jim were a strong and effective team. Wanda's tireless dedication was essential to their achievements—handling bookkeeping, managing operations, and even driving buses across state lines back to LaBelle, Florida. Her work ethic was unmatched, and her efforts played a critical role in the success of their businesses.
She also had the opportunity to work alongside her three sons—Joey, Jason, and Derrick—in the family business. She valued the time spent with them and took pride in contributing to what they built together.
Wanda was known for her home-cooked meals, her eye for decorating, her deep love for animals, and her incredibly feisty spirit. She worked hard, cared deeply for those around her, and remained a steady and reliable presence in the lives of her family and friends.
Her survivors include;

Children: Joey (Deonna) Hampton, Jason Leathers, Derrick (Rebecca) Leathers, Angie (Will) Leathers, and Brandy Powers
Siblings: Mary (Mike) Foster, Pat Hoeft, and Bud Hampton
Grandchildren: Jared Clouse, Jordan (James) Davis, Tyler (Madison) Hampton, Matt Thomason, Louis Leathers, Jason Leathers, Rita Gable-Leathers, Jake (Misty) Leathers, Josh (Scarlett) McMunn, Jordan (Shaina) McMunn, Brad (Audrianna) Beck, and Janay Edwards
Many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and her brother Terry Hampton.
Wanda will be remembered for her strong spirit, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her family and work.
Visitation will begin at 3 PM, Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Landess Funeral Home in Malden, MO. The funeral service will follow at 5 PM, Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Landess Funeral Home in Malden.
Landess Funeral Home and Crematory of Malden are in charge of the arrangements.
