Campbell ~ Oliver Jackson Hampton, affectionately known as “Jack,” “O.J.,” Dad, Grandpa Hampton, Papa Jack, and Uncle Jack, entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 96.

Jack was born on April 4, 1930, in Malden, Missouri, to the late John Jackson Hampton and Effie Mae (Patterson) Hampton.

Jack was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War.

Jack dedicated more than 30 years to the State Bank of Campbell, where he served as Vice President. He was respected for his integrity, strong work ethic, and commitment to his community. Jack was also a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Campbell, where he served for many years as a tenor in the choir and as song leader. He served on the Woodlawn Cemetery Board for many years and was a recreational pilot later in life flying ultralights, but his passion was woodworking.

On July 16, 1954, Jack married Mary Lou Buttrey in Parma, Missouri. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2002. He later married Merle Wilson in Campbell, Missouri, who preceded him in death on September 17, 2021.

In addition to his wives, Jack was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth Hampton (“Hoppy”) and Johnny Dwight Hampton; one sister, Francetta Hamlett; and one stepson, Gary Wilson.

Jack is survived by four stepdaughters: Lavonda Pyle (Carl) of Campbell, Missouri; Deronda Propst (Mitchell) of Dexter, Missouri; Shiela Boyles (Larry) of Fisk, Missouri; and Pam Daily (George) of Canyon Lake, Texas; one daughter, Andrea Landewee (Michael) of Kelso, Missouri; one son, Brian Hampton (Beverly) of Malden, Missouri; five grandchildren: Elizabeth Landewee (Marshall Beatty) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Alicia Below (Terrence) of Kelso, Missouri; Adrianna Holman (Steve) of Kelso, Missouri; John Hampton (Alissa) of Clarkton, Missouri; and Mary Allison Nice (Michael) of Springfield, Missouri; one great-granddaughter, Brinley Below, of Kelso, Missouri; eight step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Jack will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and his lifelong commitment to serving others. Whether through his work at the bank, his leadership in his church, or the example he set for those around him, he touched countless lives with his kindness, humility, and generosity. His legacy of faith, love, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Terrence Below, Steve Holman, Marshall Beatty, John Hampton, Michael Nice, Phil Hamlett and Honorary Pallbearer is Wade Hamlett.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2026 at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, Missouri with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., with Reverend Randy Deprow officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell, Missouri.

Landess Funeral Home of Campbell will be in charge of the arrangements.
