Nelda Jean (Lowe) Smith, daughter of the late William Edward and Thelma Clarice Lowe, was born on September 6, 1936, in Dunklin County, Missouri, and departed this life on December 29, 2024, in Benton, Arkansas, at the age of 88 years.

Nelda was a member of Global Methodist Church in Bernie, Missouri. She was the Salutatorian of the 1953 graduating class of Holcomb High School. She was a Real Estate Broker and Appraiser and was co-owner of Sikeston Tire and Alignment, Smith Real Estate, and B.M.S. Auto, Inc. She was the first woman elected to the Campbell City Council and also served her community as an EMT on the Campbell Ambulance Service.

On September 19, 1954, she was united in marriage to Billy Mack Smith at South Canaan General

Baptist Church in Gibson, Missouri. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on May 13, 2024.

Survivors include one daughter, Jo Beth Kennedy (George Baker) of Byhalia, Mississippi; one son, Gregory Mack Smith (Gayla) of Benton, Arkansas; one brother, Riley Lowe; five grandchildren, Tabetha Norwood (Justin), Autumn Murray, Jessica Kennedy, Gregielle Wooldridge (Danny), and Gunnar Smith (Cami); and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and spouse, Nelda was preceded in death by three brothers, Tommy Lowe, Joe Don Lowe, and Jerry Lowe; one sister, Billye Fitzwater; and one great-grandson, Brett Oldman.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery with Randall Baker officiating.
