Obituary

Malden ~ Mrs. Maxine D. Brooks, a longtime resident of Malden, beloved and devoted pastor's wife, teacher, friend, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed from this life January 20, 2022 at 3:45 at the age of 90.  Mrs. Brooks suffered from Alzheimer's, and passed peacefully into the gates of Heaven while the singing of gospel music was being sung.  While she did not know anyone on earth, she was made anew and recognizes many friends and loved ones after she met Jesus face to face.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana.  At the age of sixteen, she began working for AT&T.  While there, she met her husband of 73 years, Reverend O. H. Brooks who was the love of her life.  They began a ministry that led them to Bernie in 1959.  They loved the area and stayed until health reasons caused them to move to Slidell, Louisiana to live with their daughter and son-in-law.  While in Missouri, Mrs. Brooks continued with AT&T until the early 1960's when she retired.  In 1972, she began college at SEMO Where she majored in Elementary Education.  She earned her B.S. and her M. ED, and she began teaching in Malden where she remained until she retired after 21 years.  She loved teaching and touched the lives of many children.  She assisted Reverend Brooks in his ministry.  She taught Sunday School, witnessed, and was active in all aspects of the church.

She was greeted by her husband Reverend O. H. Brooks, her son Howie, her daughter Kristi Brooks Mitchell, a still born baby Lorie Ann, three sisters, Gladys Roberts, Wanda Miley, Melba Kasser, three brothers, Melvin Duncan, Calvin Duncan, Huey Duncan and her parents, Willie C. and Bessie Duncan.  Mrs.  Brooks awaits in Heaven for her daughter Vicci and her husband, Carroll Fairchild who she considered a son, her grandchildren, Robin/Charles Morris, Jill Rouse, Jennifer Fairchild, Jaci/Michael Siebenkittel, Eric Fuller, Curtis/Kim Fuller, 19 Great-Grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.  She deep and unconditional love for your family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tristan and Trevor Fairchild, Bo and Chase Rouse, Drew, Dylan and Dawson Siebenkittel, Zach Morris and her great-great-grandchild, Kash Fairchild

If Mrs. Brooks were to leave you with a final thought, it would be, "I'm finally home."

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m., Monday, January 24, 2022 at Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m., at the funeral home chapel with Reverend Aulden LeBlanc officiating and music provided by Patty Duncan and Betty Ivie. Burial will follow at Bernie Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri.

Landess Funeral Home of Malden will be in charge of the arrangements.
