Obituary

Mary Margie Lee of Hopkinsville, KY, formerly of Malden died, Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. Born November 25, 1925 at Senath, Missouri. She was the daughter of the Arthur Thomas Read and Ina Akers Read.

Mary was united in marriage to Floyd Lee on December 9, 1944. He preceded her in death on May, 6, 1991.Mary Lee had many occupations. Her and her husband were the owners and operators of Lee's Grocery and Market in Malden, Missouri for many years then later served as the EOD Recruiter for the Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation in Portageville, Missouri. After being the EOD Recruiter for DAEOC she was later promoted to the EOD Counselor for Dunklin County and while serving as RSVP Project Director for the Malden Chamber of Commerce. In 1980 Mary Lee was the Operations Manager for Dunklin County Transit, Inc. in Malden until she retired in 1999 to move to Kentucky to be with her family.

Mary Lee loved being around people. She served on the board at the Malden Country Club and was a lover of golf. While with the RSVP program, she helped publish three cookbooks for fundraisers. In Hopkinsville, Kentucky she served 9 years as a volunteer for Pink Ladies at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. Mary Lee was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are two sons; Floyd (Joe) Lee, Jr. and wife Deborah of McCrory, Arkansas and Thomas Lee and wife Debbie of Belle Mead, New Jersey; daughter, Ina Shanklin and husband Howard of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, seven grandchildren; Jessica Saul, Stacey Newton, Lance Lee, Matthew Lee, Jacob Lee, Ariel Lee and Rebecca Lee. Eight great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, daughter, Sandra Kay Lee Taylor, two sisters, Wanda Parnett and Rhonda Brodgen and brother, A. T. Read, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 10-11 A.M. at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Joe Lee and Mr. James Powell officiating.

Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.
