Campbell ~ Joan Marie Abernathy, 70 of Campbell, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Campbell Healthcare & Senior Living in Campbell, Missouri.

Joan, daughter of JW and Glodean Stevens Smothers, was born on Sunday, November 16, 1952 in Campbell, Missouri.

She was a member of the Campbell General Baptist Church and taught Special Education for 25 years for the Campbell School District.

On October 3, 1970 in Campbell, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Rick Abernathy.  He survives.

Her survivors include two daughters, Amanda Langley and husband, Nathan of Campbell and Sara Moon and husband Jeremy of Campbell; four grandchildren, Jaxson and Madalynn Langley and Briar and Abel Moon all of Campbell; sister, Ginger Mauldin and husband, David of Jefferson City, MO; brother-in-law, Larry Abernathy and wife Susie of Campbell; sister-in-law, Debbie Fieser of Campbell and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Jeffery Abernathy; brother, Donald Smothers; infant sister, Janet Smothers, brother-in-law, Tom Fieser; sister-in-law, Jannen Gibson and mother & father-in-law, Gene "Scab" and Muriel Abernathy.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 11-1 PM at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.  The funeral service will immediately follow at 1 PM in the Landess Funeral Chapel with Reverend Darren Baker and Reverend Randy Vaughn officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn-Landess Addition Cemetery in Campell.
