Jim Leathers:
December 26, 1942 – October 19, 2026
Jim Leathers passed away on October 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born on December 26, 1942, to James and Corean Leathers.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda Jo Leathers. Together, they built not only a life but a legacy of hard work, determination, and family.
He is survived by his children, Angie Leathers (Will), Joey Hampton (Deonna), Derrick Leathers (Rebecca), and Jason Leathers (Lori); his grandchildren, Jared Clouse, Jordan Clouse Davis, Tyler Hampton, Matt Thomason, Jake Leathers, Brad Beck, Josh McMunn, Jordan McMunn, Garrett Duque, Luis Tapia, Jason Leathers (Jace), and Rita Gable; and his great-grandchildren, whom he adored. His sister Tammie Doyel, Phyliss Gruchella, Sue Heid and Jerry Mack Leathers also survive.
Jim's story was one of true grit and determination. He began as a young kid peddling melons out of a wagon. Starting with little more than ambition, an unmatched work ethic, and the determination to succeed, Jim, alongside his sons, built something truly remarkable. His ability to look over a field, his knowledge of the watermelon industry, and his instinct for making a deal forever on the telephone are what drove him.
He didn't just work in the business; he knew it inside and out.
Jim was the definition of true grit. You never had to wonder where you stood with him because he was sure to let you know. He could be stubborn, contrary, and tough as nails, but beneath that rough exterior was a heart of gold. Although he didn't always want everyone to see his softer side, it was always there and was shown to many who needed his help.
Of all his accomplishments, perhaps one of his greatest sources of pride was knowing he had laid the groundwork for his children. Seeing them follow in his footsteps, each in their own way, meant more to him than words could express.
He didn't just build a business. He built a foundation, a family legacy, and a name that will be remembered long after his time here.
We are forever grateful for the life he lived, the lessons he taught, and the legacy he leaves behind.
So, for now, we say goodbye to him but this isn't goodbye forever. We'll see you again someday.
The Man. The Myth. The Legend. Jim Leathers.
