James "Jim" Joseph Batson passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Cumming, Georgia. He was born on January 8, 1948, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and lived a life defined by dedication and love—for his country, his family, and his favorite hobbies.

Jim proudly served in the United States Navy for 22 years retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. As an acoustic and mutli-sensor operator, he deployed on the USS John F. Kennedy and USS Nimitz during the Vietnam Era and the USS Saratoga in the Persian Gulf. Prior to his retirement in 1994, Jim trained recruits in Orlando, FL. He was incredibly proud of his service and thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures! A true car enthusiast, he loved maintaining vehicles, trying his hand at building a hot rod and never passed up the chance for a conversation about engines, classic models, or a project he had going in the garage. He was a country boy at heart who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—good music and good food. He especially loved oldies and country music, and had a particular fondness for shrimp, which he would happily enjoy anytime.

Jim had a sharp sense of humor. He was always ready with a story, a smile, or a helping hand. He was the kind of man who could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them laughing. His presence will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lindell and Edra Batson.

He is survived by his loving partner, Helen Lund; his son, Dr. William Allen "Buck" Batson and wife Amber; his daughter, Heather Batson-Mead and husband Jonathan; and his beloved grandson, Alvan; and his siblings, Dr. Ben Batson (Shirley), Karol Hays (Junior) and Dr. Greg Batson (RoseMarie).

In keeping with Jim's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A graveside service with veteran's honors will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Woodlawn Cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell, Missouri.
