Campbell ~ Hazel Evelyn Abernathy, 89 of Campbell, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Arkansas.

Hazel, daughter of Grover Benjamin and Alvah Margaret Tucker Cashion, was born on Wednesday, August 14, 1929 in Gideon, Missouri.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Campbell and was in the choir and served as Sunday School Teacher.  She graduated from ASU with a Master and Specialist in Education. She began her teaching career at 17 at Hopkins School and taught over 50 years at Campbell Elementary.

On November 16, 1946 in Rector, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Jack Abernathy.  He preceded her in death on March 22, 2007.

Her survivors include two sons, Steve Abernathy and wife, Michele of Jonesboro, Keith Abernathy of Bernie; one daughter, Pam Buchanan and husband, Ron of Gideon; five grandchildren, John Abernathy and wife, Claire of Jonesboro, Grey Abernathy of Fayetteville, Benjamin Buchanan and wife, Chantel of Holcomb, Sydney Norman and husband, Shane of Poplar Bluff, Carsyn Abernathy of Bernie; three great-granddaughter, Sadie Norman, Storie Buchanan and Shylor Buchanan; one sister, Mable Corwin of Ellisville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law, Nancy Abernathy (10/4/2017); three sisters, Cosette Weitkamp, Sharon Wildberger, Lois Vanmiddlesworth; three brothers, J.T. Cashion, Don Cashion & Gene Cashion.

Visitation will begin at 6 - 8 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Landess Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marty Carlisle officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell.

Pallbearers will be John Abernathy, Grey Abernathy, Benjamin Buchanan, Dewayne Hensley, Scottie Buie & Danny Bryne.
