Hal V. Miller, passed away February 6, 2020.

Hal was born in Campbell, MO on October 26th, 1933 the son of Marion Virgil and Vera Viola Miller nee Gregory. He grew up farming with his parents on Crowley's Ridge before they moved to Campbell in 1960. Hal graduated as Valedictorian of Campbell High School in 1951, and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia on an Air Force ROTC Scholarship. After graduation with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, he was married to Phyllis V. Brown of Raymore, MO in 1955.

Hal served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959 at Winston Salem Air Station, NC; Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan; and Andrews Air Force Base, MD. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force as a Captain.

Upon leaving the Air Force, he moved to Redbank, NJ working for Packard Bell Electronics. In 1963, he relocated to Dayton, OH to work at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, at the Foreign Technology Division (now known as the National Air and Space Intelligence Center) as avionics engineer and manager. While at WPAFB, he continued his education at graduate school and earned a Master Degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Lindsey Air Station in Wiesbaden, Germany between 1970 and 1975. After completion of his assignment in Germany, he returned to WPAFB and continued his work until retirement as a GS-14 after more than 30 years of government service as active duty U.S Air Force and Civil Service.

He was instrumental in conducting examinations of Soviet aircraft and RADAR threat systems. Due to his outstanding accomplishments throughout his career he was awarded numerous citations and medals, including the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award for noteworthy career service, significant accomplishments, leadership, notable competence and major impact on the mission of the Air Force.

Hal was an active Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator, W8XB, and served at the Dayton Amateur Radio Convention "Hamvention" in various capacities including Assistant General Chairman and Internal Security Chairman. He loved to program computers and to play games including chess, cards and marbles.

Upon his retirement, Hal returned to his hometown of Campbell, where he worked for the Campbell Citizen Newspaper as a photographer and reporter. Hal was also active as a board member of the Daisy Morris Nutrition Center and enjoyed spending time with friends at the American Legion Post 109. He leaves behind two loving sons: Kurt H., wife Karen S. and granddaughters and grandsons Breanne D. (Philip) Hunley, Brandi N. (Doug) Ruyle and Brent K. of Bellbrook, OH and Scott L., wife Mary Ellen and granddaughters Sophie and Anna of Shaker Heights, OH. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Christopher, Madelyn and Benjamin Ruyle.

Family will receive friends at Landess Funeral Home of Campbell, MO on Monday, February 24th at 10 AM with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery to immediately follow. Following the funeral, a reception will be held at the Campbell Civic center, located at 100 S. Locust St.
