Malden ~ Gwen S. Barrera, 67 of Malden, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Gwen, daughter of Franklin Delano and Nettie Sue Case Smith, was born on Sunday, October 9, 1955 in Alexandria, Louisiana.

She had a Master's in Nursing and Social Work and was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden.

On January 31, 1997 in San Antonio, Texas, she was united in marriage to Henry J. Barrera.  He survives.

Other survivors include her mother, Nettie Sue Smith of Gideon; son, Jeremy Lott; aunt, Betty Jo Lape of Malden; grandchildren, Cody Lott (Brianna) of Clarkton, Cierra Lott of Holcomb and Amelia and Emma Lott both of St. Louis; great-grandchildren, Corbin Lott, Caislee Lott and Kylie Lott.

She was preceded in death by her father, Franklin D. Smith.

Visitation will begin at 10 A.M, Monday, July 31, 2023, at Landess Funeral Home in Malden, Missouri, with services beginning at 12 p.m. with Reverend Aulden LaBlanc officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Clarkton, Missouri.

Landess Funeral Home and Crematory of Malden are in charge of the arrangements.
