Gladys Meese Hartsfield was born on Wednesday, January 13, 1937 in Lepanto, Arkansas and departed this life on Friday, February 14, 2025 in Bernie at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 1 day. Gladys was the daughter of the late James H. and Nancy Lee Meese. On Christmas day of 1954, she was united in marriage to Alton Hartsfield. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2021.

Gladys and Al owned and operated Al's Motors in Malden for many years. Gladys was a charter member of Kimball Baptist Church in Malden and served in many capacities there since 1961. She loved the Lord, her church and her family.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Cathy Stanfield; granddaughter, Samantha Jones and husband, Chris; grandson Travis Stanfield; great-grandchildren, Justin Stanfield, Jarred Jones, Taylor Stanfield, Jaxon Stanfield, Colton Jones, Dara Jones and Tori Stanfield and a host of family, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sabrina Bolton; great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Jones; son-in-law, Jim Stanfield and her siblings, Verlon Hogan (Joe), Bob Meese (Lucy), James Meese (Louise), Nen Meese (MaryLou), Violet Meese, Jack Meese (Marie), Clyde Meese, Corinne Adkins (Clyde), Carl Jean Meese and John Meese.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, Monday, February 17, 2025 at Landess Funeral Home in Malden. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tony Allen officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
