Campbell ~ Gene Whorton, 78 of Campbell, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at his residence in Campbell, Missouri.

Gene, son of Archie and Neoma Darter Whorton, was born on Monday, January 3, 1944 in Campbell, Missouri.

He worked for B & B Cotton Gin Company and was a farmer and was a member of the General Baptist Church in Campbell.

On January 31, 1964, in Campbell, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jannetta Tankersley.  She preceded him in death on April 9, 2012.

His survivors include one son, James Whorton and wife, Elane of Campbell; one daughter, Tammy Clark and husband, Herman of Campbell; five grandchildren, Haydn Clark of Campbell, Veronica Hartle and husband, Garrett of Poplar Bluff, Dyllan Whorton and, wife, Madison of Campbell, Alana Whorton of Kennett, Riley Whorton of Campbell; three great-grandchildren, River Hartle, Pierce Hartle, Oaklynn Whorton; one brother, Archie Whorton of Campbell and one sister, Wanda Malone of Cedar Hill, Missouri.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Richards; four sisters, Gladys Roberts, Edith Salle, Flora Mae Peterson and Betty Smith.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.  Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at the General Baptist Church in Campbell with Reverend Darren Baker and Mr. David Blakemore officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Haydn Clark, Dyllan Whorton, Scotty Umfress, Holden Umfress, Herman Clark, Curtis Littrell, Logan Ryans and Melvin Davis.

Landess Funeral Home of Campbell will be in charge of the arrangements.
