Florene "Flo" (Greenlee) Bennett of Malden, Missouri passed away on Saturday November 29, 2025 at Winchester Place in Bernie, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 20 days.
She was born on Wednesday December 9, 1936 to the late William Henry "Jack" and Odie Scoggins Greenlee. Flo was born and raised in Kilmichael, Mississippi and graduated from Kilmichael High School in 1954. She then went on to Delta State University where she graduated in 1957 with a degree in education. After graduating, Flo moved to Missouri and taught for many years for the Gideon and Malden school districts. She later helped establish Bennett's Pools and Spas alongside her son Bobby and was still working there as Florene the Queen of Chlorine up until her passing.
On January 14, 1959, Flo was united in marriage to Bob Bennett of Malden. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2008 after 49 years of marriage.
Flo was truly one of a kind and was an asset to the community in many ways. She was a dedicated member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Malden. She was a Miss Missouri/Miss America scholarship pageant director and was also involved with the Bootheel Youth Museum, Malden Business & Professional Women's Club, DeReign Club, The Children's Place Abused Women's Shelter, Small Business Development Center at Southeast Missouri State University, the Malden Chamber of Commerce, Malden Chamber Maids, and the Dunklin County Relay for Life. There were not many community service projects that she did not have a hand in.
For all of her community involvement, a few of her many awards included: Bootheel Youth Museum Volunteer of the Year, Business & Professional Women's Club Volunteer of the Year, Athena Award, 1990 Southwestern Bell Adult Volunteer of the Year Award, 1999 Lion's Club Citizen of the Year, Delta News Journal Community Service Award, as well as the Governor's Adult Leadership Award and the Lieutenant Governor's Senior Service Award.
She is survived by her loving family: Daughter Alisa (Lisa) Bennett of Memphis, TN; son Bobby Bennett and wife Jackie of Malden, MO; daughter Brenda (Ronnie) Spears of Tallahassee, FL; son Dale Bennett of Ball, LA; Grandchildren, Christa (Cole) McBroom of Dexter, MO; Stephanie Casimiro, Stacie (Matt) Dixon, Chip Bennett, and Krissy Bennett; great grandchildren, Jack Noah McBroom, Grey Bennett McBroom, Conner Casimiro, Sara Casimiro, and Cooper Dixon.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Bennett; her sisters Zula Juan Stafford and Qujette Greenlee Eudaley; and grandson Dean Spears.
Visitation will begin at 10 AM on Tuesday December 2, 2025 at First Southern Baptist Church in Malden. The funeral service will follow at 12 PM on Tuesday December 2, 2025 at First Southern Baptist Church in Malden with Reverend Aulden LeBlanc officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden. Serving as pallbearers will be, Steve Wallace, Denton Kooyman, Bobby Bennett, Blake Goode, Jim Demaree, and Dennis Demaree.
Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Barrera and Mick Shaw.
Landess Funeral Home in Malden is in charge of the arrangements.
