David Wayne Applegate, age 57, of Malden, Missouri, passed away on March 22, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

He was born on August 30, 1968, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Fred Applegate and Ruth (Warren) Applegate.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He later worked as a Criminal Investigator for the State of Missouri, dedicating his career to public service and justice.

On September 12, 1987, he was united in marriage to Michelle Hardin in Essex, Missouri. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by his mother, Ruth Applegate of Campbell; daughter, Kaelea Boyle and her significant other, Jose Hernandez of Malden; his son, Brandon Applegate and his fiancée, Cassidy Green of Dexter; and three grandchildren, Brooklyn Boyle, Blakeley Boyle, and Haven Hernandez, with another grandchild, Cohen Applegate, on the way.

He is also survived by his sisters, LaDonna O'Neal and husband Jerry of Campbell and Paula Williams and spouse Charlee of California; along with several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rhonda Shurtleff.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2026 at Landess Funeral Home in Malden with funeral services beginning at 12:30 p.m. with Bro. Jim Sanders officiating.

Interment will follow at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.
