Buford Eugene "Gene" Thompson passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 10 days.

Gene was born in Gibson on Tuesday, December 31, 1935 and was the third child of Ruby and Harve Thompson, both of Gibson.

He was a member of the AFLCIO Labor Union Local #1104 in Cape Girardeau for 20+ years.  For those who knew him, Gene was a talented and skilled pool player, bow hunter, marksman, and fisherman.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents,, two sisters, Faye Devel and Joyce Frederick and three brothers, Bill, Ricky, and Terry Joe Thompson.

Gene is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Sullivan Thompson of Gibson, five sons, Roger of Fruitland, Denny, Michael, and Chris of Gibson, and Jeffrey of Pollard, Arkansas, along with five grand kids, seven great grand kids and two brothers, Ronnie and Jackie Thompson.  He leaves behind a loving and devoted family and many, many friends.  He will be missed.

Visitation will begin at 3:30 PM Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.

A memorial service will follow at Landess Funeral Home, 1213 Allen Road, Campbell, MO, 573 246-2596, on Wednesday at 4:30 PM with Rev. Randy Vaughn officiating.
