Campbell ~ Betty Laverne Smith, 90, of Campbell, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Missouri.

Betty, daughter of Archie and Neoma Darter Whorton, was born on Saturday, August 9, 1930 in Atkins, Arkansas.

She was a homemaker and a member of the General Baptist Church in Campbell.

On November 26, 1966 in Campbell, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Claude H. Smith.  He preceded her in death on August 3, 1999.

Her survivors include four sons, John Downs and wife, Connie of Dittmer, Ronnie Downs and wife, Robin of Leesburg, Georgia, Donald Downs of Campbell, Lewis Smith and wife, Linda of Blytheville; five daughters, Laverne Jones and husband, Gill of Kennett, Betty Speer of Campbell, Lee Smith and husband, Ron of Malden, Claudia Benson of Malden, Kaye Baker and husband, Vernon of Drummonds, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Hazel Smith of Metamora, Illinois; 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Archie Whorton and Gene Whorton both of Campbell and one sister, Wanda Malone of Cedar Hill, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Bill Downs, Robert Smith; one grandson, Bill Downs; two great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Gladys Robertson, Edith Sallee and Flora Mae Peterson.

Visitation will be from 12 - 1 p.m., Thursday, November 12. 2020 at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell with funeral services beginning at 1 p.m., with Reverend Darren Baker and Brother Dennis McGinley officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell.

Landess Funeral Home of Campbell will be in charge of the arrangements.
